80,000 Hilton Honors points
Occasional Hilton guests who want hotel points with no annual fee commitment.
The Hilton Honors American Express Card is one of the best no-annual-fee hotel cards on the market, and the combination of a $0 annual fee with complimentary Hilton Gold status is unusual — most hotel cards charge $95 or more before delivering mid-tier elite status. Gold status delivers an 80% bonus on base points you earn during stays, space-available room upgrades, and a daily food and beverage credit at select U.S. brands. For occasional Hilton travelers, that status alone changes the economics of every stay.
The $200 annual Hilton credit — paid out as $50 per quarter for direct purchases at Hilton properties — effectively means the card pays you $200 per year just to use it at hotels you were already staying at. That is meaningful value at zero annual fee. The earn rates are strong for a no-fee card: 7x points at Hilton properties, 5x at U.S. restaurants, gas stations, and supermarkets, and 3x everywhere else.
The welcome bonus is 80,000 Hilton Honors points after $2,000 in six months — a low and easily achievable spend requirement. Hilton points are worth approximately 0.5 to 0.6 cents each in typical redemptions, so 80,000 points represents around $400 to $480 in hotel value. At a free card with a $2,000 spend bar, that is a very efficient return on application.
You should get this card if you stay at Hilton hotels even a few times per year, want complimentary Gold status without paying for it, and value the quarterly Hilton credits. It is also an excellent downgrade or companion card for Hilton Surpass holders during years when the Surpass fee is hard to justify.
You should skip it if you are loyal to a different hotel chain, want access to lounge perks or Diamond status (which requires the Surpass or Aspire tier), or prefer cash-back cards over hotel points. The closest step-up is the Hilton Surpass at $150, which adds a free night reward, higher bonus rates, and a path to Diamond status through spending. Amex lifetime language applies — this welcome bonus is available once per lifetime.
Amex lifetime language applies: you can only earn the welcome bonus once per lifetime on this card. A limited-time offer that included a Free Night Reward expired April 15, 2026; the current standard offer is 80,000 points with no free night attached.
