75,000 miles
Frequent travelers who can use the travel credit and lounge access to offset the annual fee.
The Capital One Venture X is one of the most cost-efficient premium travel cards on the market, and the math is almost embarrassingly simple. The $395 annual fee looks steep until you account for the $300 annual travel credit (automatically applied when you book through Capital One Travel) and the 10,000 bonus miles each anniversary worth at least $100 in travel. That alone gets you down to an effective $0 net cost — and you still get Priority Pass lounge access at over 1,300 airports worldwide, a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit up to $120, and access to Capital One's 22 transfer partners for premium redemptions.
You should get this card if you travel at least a few times a year and want a true premium lounge card without paying $695 like you would for the Amex Platinum. The Venture X earns 10x miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, 5x on flights through the portal, and a flat 2x on everything else. If you transfer miles strategically — say, to Air Canada Aeroplan for Star Alliance business class or to Virgin Atlantic for Delta partner awards — you can easily extract 1.5 to 2 cents per mile, making the welcome bonus worth $1,100 to $1,500 in first-class travel.
You should skip this card if you primarily want cash back, or if you spend very little on travel and would not realistically use the $300 credit each year. It also requires excellent credit — typically 740 or above — so it is not the right card if you are still building your score.
The closest alternative is the Chase Sapphire Reserve at $550 annual fee, which offers a higher $300 travel credit and better trip delay protection but lacks Capital One's lounge footprint and has a narrower transfer partner mix. For domestic-focused travelers, the Sapphire Reserve's Priority Pass includes restaurant access the Venture X does not.
One important policy change took effect in February 2026: guest access to Priority Pass lounges is no longer complimentary. You now pay $45 per adult guest per visit unless you spend $75,000 in a calendar year to unlock free guests. For solo travelers this does not matter, but if you routinely bring a partner or family members to the lounge, factor that cost in. On the bonus eligibility front, only a prior Venture X bonus blocks you — not a plain Venture card — so you can hold both products without one canceling out the other.
48-month rule: you cannot earn the Venture X welcome bonus if you received a Venture X bonus in the past 48 months. Unlike the Venture card, holding a plain Venture or VentureOne does NOT block you from the Venture X offer. The clock starts when the bonus posts. No lifetime rule.
