After year one, you settle into a straightforward 1.5 miles per dollar on everything with no categories to juggle.
What makes this card different from airline co-brands is the flexibility. There are no transfer partners, no blackout dates, and no points-to-airline conversions to navigate. You redeem your miles as a statement credit against any travel purchase — flights, hotels, rideshares, even Airbnbs — at a flat 1 cent per mile. That simplicity is genuinely valuable if you don't want to become a points hobby enthusiast. You can also redeem miles for cash if your plans change.
This card is best for travelers who fly on multiple airlines (or don't fly JetBlue or United exclusively), want a no-fuss rewards card they don't have to think about, and are applying as first-time Discover cardmembers. The $0 annual fee and 0% foreign transaction fee make it a solid everyday companion, especially during that boosted first year.
Skip it if you're a frequent flyer with airline loyalty — a co-branded card like the JetBlue Plus or a premium card with real transfer partners will deliver far more value on premium redemptions. The 1.5x flat rate after year one also loses to cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Capital One Venture when you factor in transfer partner upside.
The closest alternative is the Capital One VentureOne, which also earns flat miles redeemable for travel with no annual fee.
