High spenders who can maximize the 2.5% flat rate to easily offset the annual fee.
The Alliant Cashback Visa Signature used to be one of the most competitive flat-rate cash back cards available — 2.5% on all purchases with no categories, no caps, and no annual fee in the first year (then $99 thereafter). That made it a favorite among rewards optimizers who wanted simplicity at a premium rate. Unfortunately, that era is over.
As of late 2025, Alliant quietly closed the card to new applicants, and in November 2025 they slashed the 2.5% rate to 1.5% for all cardholders. What was once a standout product is now below-average: 1.5% flat cash back with a $99 annual fee after year one is a bad deal by any measure when free alternatives like the Wells Fargo Active Cash and Citi Double Cash both earn 2% with no annual fee.
If you were planning to apply for this card, you cannot — it is no longer available. If you already hold the card, the math on keeping it past year one is unfavorable at the current 1.5% rate. A $99 annual fee would require $9,900 in annual spending just to break even versus a free 2% card, and $19,800 to offset against a free 2% card at any meaningful margin.
The closest alternatives for what this card used to offer are the Wells Fargo Active Cash (2% flat, $0 AF, no foreign transaction fee) and the Citi Double Cash (2% effective flat — 1% when you buy, 1% when you pay). Both are available to new applicants, carry no annual fee, and outperform the current Alliant rewards rate from day one.
The takeaway: if you see this card listed somewhere, check the date of that review. The product that made it worth recommending no longer exists for new customers.
IMPORTANT: The Alliant Cashback Visa Signature Card is no longer available to new applicants as of late 2025. The card was quietly removed from Alliant's product lineup. Additionally, the premium 2.5% cash back tier was discontinued effective November 1, 2025 — existing cardholders now earn a flat 1.5% on all purchases.
